Henrik Kaessmann

Henrik Kaessmann is professor of evolutionary genomics at Heidelberg University (Germany). He is an expert in evolutionary genomics, specializing in the molecular and cellular evolution of vertebrate organs. Kaessmann earned his PhD in biology from Leipzig University before advancing his research through postdoctoral work in the Department of Ecology and Evolution at the University of Chicago. In 2003, he joined the Center for Integrative Genomics at the University of Lausanne as an assistant professor of evolutionary genomics. His rapid rise in academia saw him promoted to associate professor in 2007 and to full professor in 2014. Throughout his career, Kaessmann has received numerous prestigious awards, including three ERC Grants and EMBO membership, underscoring his significant contributions to the field of molecular evolution. Kaessmann’s lab places great importance on fostering a highly collaborative and positive team spirit, valuing the diverse cultural backgrounds of its members. This diversity contributes to an especially enriching and dynamic research environment.
