Victoria Ingham
Victoria Ingham is a Junior Professor for Translational Parasitology at Heidelberg University and group leader at the Center for Infectious Diseases, practising cutting edge science and active field work in the battle against malaria.
Vicky's career path offers an inspiring look at reaching a professorship at a young age in a highly competitive field. She studied Biological Sciences at Oxford before completing a MSc and PhD in Systems Biology, working on the mechanisms behind insecticide resistance in malaria mosquitoes. She continued this work as a postdoc at the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine, and in 2021 moved to Heidelberg to establish her own research group, becoming a professor just a few years later in 2025. Her lab combines bioinformatics and molecular biology to understand how insecticide resistance develops in Anopheles mosquitoes, the main vectors of malaria, and how this resistance shapes the development of the malaria parasite itself. Her work has led to numerous high-impact publications and shaped how the field understands resistance mechanisms.
