Margret Bülow

Prof. Dr. Margret Bülow is Professor of Biochemistry and Nutrition at the University of Potsdam, where she studies how nutrients are sensed and regulated within cells.

Her career illustrates how an independent academic path can evolve alongside family life and motherhood. After studying Biology in Frankfurt and Karlsruhe, she completed her PhD at ETH Zürich and later established and led her own research group at the University of Bonn. She completed her habilitation in Molecular Biomedicine in 2021 before moving to the University Hospital Düsseldorf and subsequently taking up her professorship in Potsdam in 2026. Alongside her scientific career, Prof. Dr. Margret Bülow has combined her scientific career and academic leadership with family life as a mother of two. Her story offers an inspiring perspective on building a successful career in science while raising a family and on how different stages of life can shape rather than limit a scientific career.

Her research focuses on how organelles communicate and influence nutrient sensing, metabolism and cellular function, particularly through interactions of peroxisomes and mitochondria.
