Hans-Georg Kräusslich

Prof. Dr. med. Dr. h.c. Hans-Georg Kräusslich is the Director of the Department of Infectious Diseases at Heidelberg University Hospital, Dean of the Medical Faculty of Heidelberg University, and Chairman of the Executive Board of the German Center for Infection Research (DZIF), among other roles. His lab investigates the molecular biology of retroviruses, with a particular focus on HIV assembly, entry, and host–virus interactions using advanced imaging approaches. Over his long scientific career, he has been recognized with numerous honors, including the Heinz Ansmann Award for AIDS Research, the Faculty Medal of Heidelberg University Medical Faculty, and election to the Leopoldina National Academy of Sciences. Beyond his research, Professor Kräusslich became well known to the broader public through his Rhein-Neckar-Zeitung podcast appearances during the coronavirus pandemic, where he actively tackled misinformation and contributed to public understanding of science and medicine.
